Coach K's Record: Mike Krzyzewski Passes Bobby Knight With Win No. 903

In recent years, it's become obvious that Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski's record-breaking 903rd career win would be a matter of when, not if. Against Michigan State at Madison Square Garden Tuesday night, with the man he surpassed, Bob Knight, on press row, Coach K achieved the lofty status of Division I college basketball's winningest coach of all time. The Blue Devils beat the Spartans, 74-69.

The game was a classic Duke win, appropriately. Using patient offense with terrific outside shooting, especially from Andre Dawkins, and a lockdown interior defense that frustrated Michigan State, in particular star Draymond Green, all night, after a back-and-forth first half, the Blue Devils pulled away in the second.

Dawkins scored 24 points, including six three-pointers, Seth Curry scored 21, adding in four assists and five rebounds, and Ryan Kelly chipped in 14 points off the bench. Keith Appling led the Spartans with 22 points while Green only scored 10 on 4-15 shooting.

Krzyzewski had dozens of his former players, including Grant Hill, Shane Battier, Jay Williams, Chris Duhon, Bobby Hurley, Mike Dunleavy and Jay Bilas (he was calling the game), in attendance, as well as his wife, brother and family.
